Artistik Expressionz 2008

Art from local teens is on display in the Rotary Room for the month of May. TAC, our Teen Advisory Council, invites all to attend the opening reception for this juried art show.

Festival of the Arts
Saturday, May 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Memorial Park in Pickering Village
Don't miss the first annual Ajax Festival of the Arts. This daylong event includes:
Artisan’s Marketplace

Main Stage Entertainment featuring local artists

Kre8ive Kids Zone including Storytime in the Park at 10:30 a.m. and Plastercine Storybook Craft Creations, hosted by the Ajax Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Anime Workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Village Branch Libraryfor students age 12 and up.

Instructor Dirk Michiels will teach the basic techniques of how to draw anime and cartoon characters. Participants will also have the opportunity to create their own designs and learn to make their favorite characters, from the Simpson's to Dragon Ball and Naruto.

For the Family

Spring Storytime - March 31 to June 14 at all Library branches
Ajax Library Services free, drop in storytimes, are the perfect venue to help connect preschoolers with books. We offer evening and daytime storytimes and weekend storytimes. Programs include:

Books for Babies
Build your repertoire of songs, poems and finger plays while sharing simple books with your baby.

Tales for Twos
Simple stories, felt boards and action rhymes are core to the program for this age group.

Story Stretchers
Share a story and complete a simple craft or activity as we focus on pre-reading skills.

Family Storytime
Come and "shake your sillies out" and then settle down for stories at this fun-filled family session.

Ajax Reading Circle

New members are always welcome at the Ajax Reading Circle. Youth ages 4 to 12 are invited to read with high school volunteers on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Main Branch Rotary Room. Provide your child with extra reading support in a fun environment. The Ajax Reading Circle is supported by Frontier College. For more information, call Brenda Walters at 905-686-9276.
