2006 Recipients

Good Neighbour Awards - Presented to Wilma Graham and Anne Fleck. Both were nominated by their neighbours for their positive, friendly, and caring nature.

Environmental Community Awards - Presented to Bunny Lockett and Sherry Brown - Co-chairs of the 2006 Environmental Affairs Week Committee.

Cultural Arts Community Award - Presented to Cynthia Feltrin. Cythia is the President of the Young Singers Executive. She has been instrumental in expanding the choir, increasing the variety of concerts, and getting the Young Singers recognized as a charitable organization.

Diversity Community Award - Presented to Cristian Vergara. Cristian is known for his high moral and spiritual values, his honesty, his integrity, and respect for his fellow citizens.

Recreation Community Award - Presented to Chris Fox. Chris has successfully coached women’s soccer, and has been an executive member for the Ajax Minor Hockey Association.

Friend of Youth Secondary School Bursary Award (Ajax High School) - Presented to Mikahelia Harris-Saunders for being an active member of the "Culture of Peace" Committee, The "White Bandana Campaign" and "Black History Month" celebrations.

Friend of Youth Secondary School Bursary Award (Archbishop Denis O’Connor High School) - Presented to Justin Pinto, who is an honour role student, a peer tutor, and a member in the peer ministry and DO’C social justice club.

Friend of Youth Secondary School Bursary Award (Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) - Presented to Adam Kelly, who is in the yearbook class and volunteers at the St. Bernadette Parish.

Friend of Youth Secondary School Bursary Award (Pickering High School) - Presented to Graeme Barlow, who has logged over 350 community hours and was the winner of the 2004/2005 youth leadership award.

Friend of Youth Secondary School Bursary Award (J. Clarke Richarson Collegiate) - Presented to Travis McGarrity, for his extensive involvement in student government, music council and culture of peace club , students against racism and the model united nations club.

Youth Civic Award - Presented to Justin ‘JussOne’ Morris. Justin has worked on curriculum development for a children’s African heritage program, promoted local spoken work and lyrical artists, taught media skills to youth and served as a mentor to aspiring visual artists.

Adult Civic Award - Presented to Dr. Romas Stas. A long time Ajax doctor, he is acknowledged for his continual efforts to make the Ajax/Pickering Hospital a full service facility to better serve the residents of Ajax and West Durham.

The Town of Ajax Council and staff congratulate all volunteers who help make Ajax a better place to live, and encourage them and others to get out into the community and lend a hand.
