Ajax Library Services has a broad scope of resources in many formats and languages for citizens of all ages. Join a book club, attend a storytime or attend a program at the Library.
What Can You Find Here?
- Internet access
- Over 50 computers available to access the Internet throughout the branches. Wireless Internet available at the Main Branch. Access to USB for fast and large documents and file downloads. 1 hour of self-service time available.
- Access to the online catalogue
- Search for materials, Renew Books, Review Items out and Check Choice Read Lists - 24/7.
- ATAM:Telephone Renewal and Notification Service
- 24/7 telephone messaging service available to renew materials, notification of holds and check due-dates.
- Books
- Diverse Collection of materials ranging from Childrens to Adult to Multilingual to Reference and including emerging collections such as graphic novels and comics.
- Audio books on CD
- Large Audio book collection available on CD. Vast collection of titles available.
- Large print books
- Large Print books are complete, unabridged books designed with large, clear print on non-glare paper allowing for easy reading.
- Magazines and newspapers
- From current events to leisure publications a braod range of titles are available.
- Materials in other languages
- Wide selection of mixed media resources and multilingual collections.
- Government publications
- Local Government publications are available from the reference collection. Publications of local interest are also kept.
- Language learning
- Tell Me More an online Language learning solution is available for Spanish, English (ESL), French, German, Italian, Dutch. Other collections include dictionaries, grammar books, phrasebooks, and language learning kits.
- Music Compact discs
- CDs of eclectic genres from Rock and Pop to Classical to World are featured.
- CNIB audio
- Tapes and CDs exclusively for CNIB customers.
- DVDs and Videos
- Large selection of Popular DVDs and Videos from the top Entertainment Movies to the best Non-Fiction has to offer.
- Games
- Select your favourite video games from PlayStation 2, XBox, GameCube and Wii platforms.
We Have Helpful Staff to Assist You
- Information and Reference help
- Information Services are always available to help locate information and provide reference help in person, by email or by phone.
- Reserves on material
- Something you want is already taken out? Go on the catalogue 24/7 to place holds on exactly what you want. You will be notified by phone or email (depending on preference) when the item is available.
- Library tours
- A group wants to visit? A custom library tours can be arranged by calling your local branch.
- Visiting Library Service (for the homebound)
- VLS can be arranged for those that are homebound. Books are selected based on preference and delivered on a schedule.
- Photocopiers
- B/W and Colour copies are available for a nominal charge. With self-serve machines available for use.
- Study space
- Need a quiet space to study? Need a large table to work as a group? If you prefer quiet spaces or need more of a collective working area each unique study space can be found.
- Loans from other libraries
- Need something but can not find it locally. There is a possiblity that we can Interloan it from another Library. Talk to a reference staff person for more information on what types of materials are allowed.
- Internet computers / Word Processing
- With over 50 computers available and a dozen Word workstations your computer needs can be fullfilled. Printing available from each machine (even computers that do not have Word on them) at a nominal rate. 1 Hour of access is available and depending on how busy more time is sometimes available.
- Programs for children & adults
- Wide selection of programs for all age groups. Check the Whats On page for up to date information on ongoing programs
- Storytime programs for preschoolers
- Storytime runs continously with programs year round. Check the Storytime page for dates and times
Computer Resources
Access to electronic magazine databases are available at all branches. All branches offer public access to the Internet. All branches offer word processing applications (printing charges apply). Wireless Internet in Main Branch.
Canadian National Institute for the Blind
Books, magazines and audio books for the visually impaired are available at the Main Branch.
Visiting Library Service
Visiting Library Service (VLS) is available to homebound customers. Materials are delivered to VLS customers on a regular schedule. Material selections are based on the customer's reading preferences determined during a registration interview. For more information please call 905-683-4000, ext. 850.
Looking for a comfortable setting to conduct your meeting, workshop, or seminar? Consider the Ajax Public Library's room rental opportunities. The Main Branch Library has three rooms available for rental.
The Rotary Room is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ajax. The room is a multipurpose facility with an adjoining warming kitchen. The room can be divided in half. Full room capacity at tables is 125 people. Room A (with warming kitchen) has a capacity of 65 people. Room B has a capacity of 60 people. The room is booked in four hour time blocks.
The Small Meeting Room can accommodate up to 6 individuals in a fixed table arrangement. It is booked on an hourly basis.
The Children's Program Room can accommodate up to 24 children and 4 adults in a fixed table arrangement. All furnishings are sized to accommodate pre-school children. The room is available for children's programming only.
How to Book Rooms
For further information refer to the Room Booking Policy available at library branches. All Meeting Room bookings are taken at the Main Branch during open hours. Confirmation of the availability will be made within 24 hours. Bookings will be confirmed upon payment receipt. Please call 905-683-4000 ext. 809 for more information and current rates.
