Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Ajax Public Library is a nonprofit, charitable organization. The purpose of the Friends is to foster public awareness, understanding and enjoyment of library services in the Town of Ajax. The Friends raise funds, support special projects, and enhance library services. What Does Being a Friend Mean? Being a Friend means knowing that you are making a real contribution to ensure that your Library remains a vital presence in the community. As a Friend you will also receive: - invitation to Friends events - a membership newsletter - voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting
To join the Friends simply print off the membership form and mail it with your payment to the Friends of the Ajax Public Library or drop it off at your local Library branch. Not only will you be supporting your local library but you will be joining one of over 100 Friends groups that have been identified across Canada. FOCAL is a national "grass roots" association committed to providing leadership, motivation and support to all Friends groups in their efforts to preserve and strengthen libraries and create awareness and appreciation of library services. Special thanks go out to Ajax Canadian Legion Branch 322 for a $10,000 donation made on Monday, April 14 at the Ajax Council Meeting. This donation represents the 8th installment in the Legion's committment of $100,000 towards the Friends and the Main Branch Library. Upcoming EventsAGM - April 27 at 2:00 p.m. Ajax Film Circuit presents, The Band's Visit - May 14 at 7:00 p.m. A bonus screening of Up The Yangtze will take place on June 11. Yung Chang’s luminous documentary focuses on the people who live alongside China’s Yangtze River, many of whom are being uprooted as a result of the Three Gorges Dam project. Hauntingly photographed by Wang Shi Qing, the stories are simultaneously heartbreaking and affirming. All those who have seen Manufactured Landscapes will wish to explore this movie as well. Films are screened at the Ajax Cineplex Theatre, 248 Kingston Rd. E. Tickets for the film are available in advance at all Ajax Library locations for $6.50. On the day of the show, tickets may be purchased at the Film Circuit desk in the theatre lobby for $7. Proceeds from the Ajax Film Circuit support the work of Friends of the Ajax Public Library.
