Quick Search and Map ToolsList of ToolsExpandable MenusQuick SearchThe Quick Search Toolbox is located at the top of the Map Viewer screen. The available searches are shown in the drop down box (see red circle) and include:
To use this tool, select the "Find" function you're interested in, either click on the “lookup” button for a list of available items to select from, or type in the name of the item (or portion of the name) within the same box. Click on the “search” button.
The resulting map view zooms in on the relevant searchable item.
Find AddressTo use this tool click on “find address” in the Search Tools menu (red circle). Type in the address you would like to search on and click on the "find address" button.
The Map Viewer will zoom in on the address.
Save My MapThe "Save My Map" tool allows you to ‘bookmark’ your electronic map view. This can be a useful function if you refer back to the same area/map frequently. Click on the “Map Tools” expandable menu and click on “save my map” (blue circle). The “Save This Map” input box will open. Enter in a name for the map and click on the “save” button.
To recall your saved map, click on the "save my map" button (under Map Tools), choose your saved map from the drop down menu and click on the "load" button.
Map ContentsThe "Map Contents" tool allows the user to turn on and off the layers within the map. Layers in the Map Contents can appear “greyed out” as layers are scale dependant (the greyed out layers will appear as you zoom in further). Click in the box to the left of the layer name to turn it on or off. Click on the “apply” button to implement the layer changes.
Generate URLTo generate the URL (web address) of the specific map view in your Map Viewer, click on the Generate URL (green circle) under the Advanced Tools Menu. Click on the “copy url” button. A windows message will appear which says it has been copied to the clipboard. Paste it into your document/email. This will enable you to email the location of your house/office/or area of interest to friends/customers etc. (you can use this in conjunction with the "Add My Point" tool which is explained under the "Map Tool Bar" link.
Display ManagerTo alter the order of appearance of your layers or to turn layers on or off, use the Display Manger tool. Once you are done with your changes, click on the "apply" button. This tool also tells you the range of scale dependencies of each of the layers.
PreferencesThe "preferences" tool (orange circle) allows you to change the size of the Map Viewer on your screen. You can also do this by clicking on the various sized icons within the "purple circle". |
