Waterfront East Pavilion

The Town of Ajax is currently working with the Ventin Group, an architect firm, to design a proposed 5,000 square foot Waterfront East Pavilion. The proposed location for the facility, as identified in the Town's Waterfront Management Plan, is at the south-west corner of Ashbury Boulevard and Audley Road South. The site is approximately 4.26 acres.

The site, which was purchased from Runnymede Development Corporation in February 2005, was originally planned to accommodate a public elementary school (Durham Public School Board waived their option to acquire the property). The Town's acquisition was integral in maintaining Council’s long term vision for a publicly owned and accessible waterfront.  

Waterfront Management Plan recommendations regarding the Waterfront East Facility: 

  • a park should be developed in consultation with the neighbourhood as well as the broader community;
  • consider designing an ecologically based neighbourhood park, with a focus on green technologies and sustainable design in facilities and stormwater management;
  • incorporate a modest building with community meeting space, washrooms, drinking fountain and possible cafe/concession (similar square footage to Rotary Pavilion);
  • ensure architectural compatibility with neighbourhood character;
  • other potential facilities include: a soccer field (unlit), splash pad, marsh viewing areas;
  • ensure that facilities are visible from the road to avoid hang-out areas.
