Council approves traffic calming on Old Harwood Avenue

News Release

March 7, 2008

Ajax Town Council has approved a traffic calming implementation plan for the next five years.

Old Harwood Avenue was identified as a priority among the 60 roads analyzed using the Town’s new Traffic Calming Warrant.

Town Council has budgeted $95,000 for traffic calming in 2008. A Public Meeting will be held in the Spring to share ideas and develop a Traffic Calming Plan for Old Harwood Avenue. Upon Council’s review and consideration of the plan, it’s anticipated that construction will commence in the Fall.

In addition, the following locations have been identified through the Traffic Calming Warrant process for traffic calming consideration over the next five years:

  • Finley Ave., from Lake Driveway to Westney Rd. and Rands Rd., from Finley Ave. to Westney Rd.
  • Ravenscroft Rd., from Westney Rd. to Delaney Dr.
  • Ritchie Ave.
  • Elizabeth St., from Old Kingston Rd. to Kearney Dr. S. and Linton Ave., from Sherwood Rd. W. to Kearney Dr. S.
  • Delaney Dr., from Church St. to Westney Rd.

The Traffic Calming Warrant objectively evaluates the need for, and potential of, traffic calming measures in existing neighbourhoods. A key component of the process is evaluating each road by taking into consideration such things as collision history, traffic speeds and volumes, emergency routes, and the locations of parks and schools.
