Fair Representation NOW

Fair Representation logo

On behalf of Ajax Town Council, I would like to thank residents who signed the Fair Representation NOW petition - requesting Regional Council undertake a formal review of its composition.

Unfortunately, the Town’s motion for fairness was not supported by Regional Council on October 29, 2008. As a result, the principle of representation-by-population will continue to be disadvantaged, and residents of some municipalities will gain from disproportionate influence at the regional level.

The fight for fairness did not end at Regional Council. It will continue until Ajax residents have their equal and fair say on the priorities of Durham - especially those issues which most affect our quality of life like water and sewer, recycling and waste management, transit and roads.

We now hope that the Province of Ontario and Ajax-Pickering MPP Joe Dickson will intervene so that fairness is brought back to the region.

This matter is crucial to you as a taxpayer and as an elector. By standing together, we can ensure fairness for the residents of Ajax. Representation by population is a fundamental basic right of our democratic system.

Every resident of Durham - no matter where they live - deserves to have his or her fair say on the priorities of the Region.

Thank you for your continued support!

Mayor
