Green Fleet Initiative

In a effort to become more environmentally friendly, the Town has launched a Green Fleet Initiative. The first phase of this initiative includes an Anti-Idling policy that prohibits Town vehicles from releasing unnecessary engine emissions.

As the second phase of the Green Fleet Initiative, the Town has unveiled three Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid pickups and three Honda Civic Hybrids. This makes Ajax the first municipality in Durham Region to add hybrid vehicles to their fleet.

What makes these hybrid vehicles environmentally friendly is the combination of battery powered auxiliary equipment with a traditional internal combustion engine. The hybrids turns off their internal combustion engine when it begins to idle, greatly reducing unnecessary engine emissions.

The Town has applied special graphics on all vehicles that include the Green Fleet slogan, "On the road to a greener Ajax."
