What is Interactive Mapping?

Interactive mapping through "Explore Ajax" is designed to be an intuitive tool which will allow you to explore Ajax geographically.  There are a number of layers and tools which are available to site users, which are described below.

What is GIS?

GIS or "Geographic Information Systems" is a computer based tool for mapping and analysing things that exist and events that happen on earth.  GIS integrates common database operations such as query, reporting and statistical analysis with geographic properties and visualization which is offered by mapping.  This technology lets you see, explore and analyze data by location, revealing patterns, relationships and trends (source:  ESRI Canada).

General Mapping Information

Each of our Town Maps starts with a full view of the Town.  The top tabs contain different map layers to query on and display.  As each of the layers is scale dependant, as you zoom in or out on the map, different layers will turn on and off.

You can move around the map by using the zoom in, zoom out and pan buttons.  You can also find your item of interest by using the Quick Search Tool and Find Address tool.

Once you have found your items of interest, you can find out more about it by clicking on the information button and then clicking on your item.  This will open a window containing more information and contain links to documents and web sites associated with that item.  A more comprehensive description is provided under the "Quck Search and Map Tools", "Map Tabs" and "Map Tool Bar" links.
