The Town of Ajax, along with seven other municipalities, make up Durham Region. Each municipality has representatives on Regional Council (listed below). The Region provides these services:

• Strategic land use planning;
• Police services;
• Main roads, traffic lights and controls;
• Recycling pickup;
• Health and social services;
• Water supply, distribution and billing;
• Emergency measures;
• Sewage collection and treatment;
• Economic development and tourism.
