Ajax is walking to the World Cup in South Africa
Caught World Cup fever? The Town of Ajax has a unique and active way for soccer fans to feel closer to the game. As part of the “I CAN….GET ACTIVE” campaign, the Town’s Recreation and Culture department, along with Library Services, is challenging Ajax to “take a tour” of the nine South African cities hosting the FIFA World Cup by walking and counting each step.
The Pedometer Challenge tracks the 3,965,000 steps it takes to get to each city, from Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Rustenburg, Polokwane, Nelspruit, Durban to Port Elizabeth.
Challenge your family, friends and co-workers to take the Pedometer Challenge. Sign-out a pedometer kit from any Ajax Library and start logging your steps. All steps logged will go towards the necessary 3,965,000 steps required.
How to get started:
• Sign-out a pedometer kit for a week from any Ajax Library branch using your library card.
• Log your steps at logyoursteps.com. This is a fun way to track your family's activity, plus contribute your steps towards the 3,965,000 needed to visit each of the nine cities in South Africa.
• Complete a ballot and enter your walking family for a monthly prize. The challenge ends on August 31, so get your feet moving to reach the goal.
• Spread community spirit by wearing the colours of the team you are supporting.
