Adopt-a-Park
Community groups are invited to adopt a green space in Ajax on an ongoing basis. It may be your local park and playground, a section of the waterfront, or a favourite creek area. If you prefer, you can contact Operations and Environmental Services and we'll suggest an area for you.
Here's how it works:
- Choose your area
- Register your cleanup date, time and place: use the form below or call us
- We'll provide bags and gloves either on site, or ahead of time by arrangement.
- Do your cleanup! Have fun, but be safe:
- If children are involved, talk to them about safety - tell them NOT to pick up anything that looks unusual or sharp, but to call an adult.
- Watch for hidden hazards such as broken glass - bring a small box or bucket for glass.
- If you find a syringe, do NOT pick it up. Call our Operations Department and we'll send someone with a proper container. If your cleanup is during the evening or weekend, call our after-hours number: 905-683-3011.
- Be sure someone in your group has a cell phone if needed.
- Don't pack garbage down into a bag with your hand or foot - you risk a nasty poke or cut.
- If you will be working along a road, we can provide safety vests. But be aware of traffic!
- We will pick up your filled garbage bags when you're finished. Be sure to leave them where they are visible.
Register your clean up
Let us know at least a few days ahead of time the location and time of your clean up. We will contact you to supply gloves and plastic bags, and will arrange to pick up the filled bags afterward. For more information contact Brenda Savage at 905-683-2951.
