Salt Management Plan

The Operations & Environmental Services Department is currently undertaking the development of a Salt Management Plan as part of an initiative launched by Environment Canada in order to help reduce the harmful environmental effects caused by the application of road salt.

The Town will be assisted by an Engineering Consultant, Giffels Associates Limited, in the preparation of a comprehensive plan that will focus on such specific areas as:

• de-icing materials used and alternatives
• material storage
• road salt application practices
• snow disposal
• winter maintenance/operator training
• areas vulnerable to road salt
• environmental monitoring
