Sanding, salting and snow plowing
 We clear major roads and collector routes first to make sure that you, and emergency service vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances, can safely travel to hospitals, schools, work and get to public transportation systems during or immediately after a snowfall. All other roads are cleared, and/or sanded/salted within 24 hours of a snowfall. The Operations and Environmental Services Department has prepared a Winter Maintenance Program Brochure which is full of valuable information about Winter Control.
The Operations and Environmental Services Department is responsible for plowing, salting and sanding close to 310 kilometres of roads, in the following priority:
Winter parking restrictions
Parking By-laws must be observed year round, although during a snow event, illegally parked cars can severely affect the way snow on your street is plowed. Overnight parking is not allowed on Town of Ajax streets at anytime of the year. This makes sure we can completely clear streets of snow at any time of day or night, and that large emergency vehicles like fire trucks can get down the streets. If you park on the street, between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., you will be ticketed.
Removing snow from your sidewalks
Owners and tenants are responsible for removing ice and snow from their sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow has stopped. If sidewalks are not cleared, we will do it and send a bill to the property owner.
Please remember, when we clear your street our plows have no place to push the snow except to the curb or shoulder. This means the end of your driveway may be covered in snow by our plows. We ask your cooperation in removing this snow.
Snow removal for seniors and disabled
We provide a partial snow removal service for residents 65 years of age or older, with nobody under the age of 65 living in the house and for residents who are restricted through disability.
Rates for this service are:

Basic service: $50 a season, which includes municipal sidewalk on frontage, one walkway to door closest to street and windrow at driveway.

Extended service: $100 a season, which includes all items in the basic service plus your driveway.
This service is available to Ajax residents only after all emergency routes and arterial routes are cleared and where there is more than 50mm (2 inches) of snow and the Town plows are plowing the roads. We suggest you spread salt on lesser accumulations. This service will be provided within approximately 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling. The town roads will be completed before this service starts.
You must contact us to fill out a new application each year for this service. Doctor's notes are required for those restricted through disability. It is important to note that snow removal will start 7 days after this application is received by the Operations and Environmental Services Department.
