Fire StationsThe Ajax Fire and Emergency operates from three fire stations.
STATION #1
Station #1 is located at 40 Westney Road North, which is just north of Kingston Road (Highway #2). Station #1 houses on-duty emergency response crews and is home to Pump 5 and Pump 6.

STATION #2
Station #2 is located at 435 Monarch Avenue and houses on-duty emergency response crews. This station also serves as the alternate Emergency Operations Centre for the Town of Ajax. Station 2 is home to Aerial 1, Rescue 3, Pump 7 and Pump 10.

AFES HEADQUARTERS
The AFES Headquarters Fire Station was placed into service on June 17, 2008. Located at 900 Salem Road North, this state-of-the-art facility houses two on-duty emergency response crews, the on-duty Platoon Chief, Administration, Fire Prevention, Training as well as our Communications and Emergency Operations Centres. This LEED certified, environmentally friendly building is testament to Council's commitment to environmental leadership and responsibility.
Two of the most common questions that we receive are these: "Is the Headquarters Station designated as Station 3" and "Why did you not designate the new Headquarters Station as Station 1"?
While it would have make sense to designate the new HQ as Station #1, it would have been problematic to make this change within the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. In order to renumber stations within the CAD System, we would have had to write a completely new Running and Dispatch Assignment. The CAD System selects the appropriate apparatus to respond to emergencies based on the location and type of the incident. As we already have a CAD Running Assignment that references Station 1 as the Westney Road Station, we would have had to renumber each response selection in the applicable response quadrants to Station 3, which would have been no small task! So, we decided to "name" the new HQ Station "Headquarters" rather than assigning it a numerical designation.
Not only does this designation assist with simplifying the CAD Running Assignment, it made the transition from two to three station easier for our crews. When someone references "Headquarters", it is easily understood. Has we renumbered the station designations, it would have created the opportunity for confusion between the old numbering and the new numbering. Our answer was to avoid creating confusion and assign the designation of "Headquarters".
Headquarters is home to Aerial 2, Pump 4, Tanker 8, Pump 9 and Car 5, in addition to the fleet of staff and support vehicles assigned to the Fire Prevention, Training and Administration Divisions.

Also located at 900 Salem Road North is our live-fire training facility. This state-of-the-art training facility will include propane fired live-fire simulator systems and environmentally friendly artificial smoke systems. Construction of the training facility is presently underway.

All Ajax fire stations are staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week by on-duty emergency response crews.
