Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week is held every year during the week in which October 9 falls. This week marks the great Chicago fire of October 9, 1871. It is chosen throughout North America to remind people of the devastation of fire and the importance of fire safety in our daily lives.
Watch our website and the local newspapers for information about Fire Prevention Week activities in your area!
Family Safety Day
As part of commitment to the community, Ajax Fire and Emergency Services hosts an annual “Family Safety Day” where the public can come and see some of our life saving equipment, including auto extrication demonstrations, defibrillation demonstrations, station tours and tours of the fire safety house.

Fire Safety House
The Fire Safety House is a trailer that is set up inside like a home. It can be brought to events, schools, etc., or used at our fire stations to teach children about fire safety.

Children are provided with realistic fire safety training including recognizing the sound of the smoke alarm, crawl low under smoke and being taught to "Get Out And Stay Out" in the event of a fire.
For information on the Fire Safety House, please contact our Fire Prevention & Public Safety Division at 905-683-4481 or contact the Chief Fire Prevention Officer by e-mail.
Learn Not to Burn Program (LNTB)
Each year, our firefighters visit children at all public and separate elementary schools in Ajax to discuss fire safety in an age appropriate format. Teaching our children about fire safety is one of the most important things we do and the Learn not to Burn program makes it easy and fun. Children are taught to respond effectively when confronted with fire, how to prevent fires from occurring and to know that firefighters are always available to help them.
The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C)
The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C) works with children who set fires. The program includes both firefighters and mental health professionals, working together as a team. We help identify and educate young fire setters. This has been a very successful program for young people with behavioural or emotional problems that lead them to set fires.

Fire Safety Presentations
We provide fire and life safety presentations to a wide variety of audiences including service groups, youth groups or senior citizens. Our presentations can include videos and demonstrations, and may even include a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog!
If you would like more information on having our team attend your event, contact the Chief Fire Prevention Officer by e-mail, or by phone at 905-683-4481.
Hazard House

The Hazard House is an innovative and riveting teaching aid for our safety conscious community, which allows audience participation in transforming the house from hazardous to safe through the use of 3D parts, flips, tokens, and stick-on illustrations.
Fire truck and "Sparky" for special events
Whenever possible, a fire truck staffed with a crew of fire fighters may be scheduled to attend special community events (i.e. parades, fun fairs and sports tournaments). Our fire fighters are excellent information resources, since their work gives them first-hand experience with the causes and consequences of fire. They are always willing to share their knowledge of fire safety, provide related printed material and demonstrate the tools and equipment they use.
We can also arrange a visit by Sparky, our costumed character mascot. If your group is having a special event, let us know and we will try to get a truck and Sparky to your event! Contact the Chief Fire Prevention Officer by e-mail or phone 905-683-4481 in order to make your request.
For more information on Sparky, check out his website.
