Safe At HomeIs your home fire safe?
Most fires happen in the home, where most people feel the safest. We help residents make sure their homes are indeed safe by offering our Safe at Home Program.
Firefighters will visit your home and give advice on making your home safer, by pointing out potential hazards. This service is free and voluntary. At certain times of the year, we make door-to-door visits in selected neighbourhoods, asking if residents would like to take part in the program. You can also make a personal request to be part of the program.
Each Safe at Home visit takes about 15 minutes. We check basements, utility rooms, storage areas, kitchens, garages and out buildings. We also check to ensure that there is a working smoke alarm on every level of the home, including the basement. Where needed, we will even replace batteries and provide and install smoke alarms - free of charge! When we are done, we’ll leave you with a package of fire safety information for you to review with your family.
